Wheatgrass Juicers

  • I am interested in purchasing a wheatgrass juice extractor for personal use. I have viewed the Miracle MJ550 and the Wheatenna Green Label. I do not want to over do it however I am a great believer in value for your money. Is extra money worth of difference in the Wheatenna machine?
  • When juicing wheatgrass juice, I don't get that much juice? How can this be improved?
  • What are the practical differences between the Manual Stainless Wheatgrass Juicer by Back to Basics and the Miracle MJ-550ss electric wheatgrass juicer in terms of quality wheatgrass? Which one do you recommend?
  • Are there any significant differences between the Miracle Manual Wheatgrass Juicer and the Stainless Steel Manual Wheatgrass Juicer?
  • I have found that I am using a lot of wheatgrass and only yielding about .5oz of juice. Do you have any suggestions? Does this manual juicer require more wheatgrass to produce the same results as the electric models?

I am interested in purchasing a wheatgrass juice extractor for personal use. I have viewed the Miracle MJ550 and the Wheatenna Green Label. I do not want to over do it however I am a great believer in value for your money. Is extra money worth of difference in the Wheatenna machine?
It depends. If you are serious about juicing wheatgrass, the Wheateena will last many, many years. The Miracle MJ-550 is a much cheaper machine. The Wheatenna is made here in the USA, with solid metal construction with a 3 year warranty. (I have even seen it used in some juicebars) The Miracle MJ-550 is made overseas, and is made of plastic. It has a 1 year warranty. It is fine if you want to do 1-3 ounces a day. If you are not sure you will stick with wheatgrass, and/or will use the machine occasionally, go with the mj-550 since it is less expensive. If wheatgrass juicing is something you are serious about, I would spend the extra money for the extra 2 years of warranty, and the more solid (no plastic to break) construction.

When juicing wheatgrass juice, I don't get that much juice? How can this be improved?
When juicing wheatgrass, it is best to only juice the wheatgrass when it is a minimum of 6" to 8". When shorter it will not yield a whole lot of juice since it is not mature enough for juicing. When longer, it is getting too old, and thus may loose water content and/or nutrients. If using a twin gear juicer, try a few drops of flax oil before juicing to cut down the foam. On most wheatgrass juicers, you can put the pulp back through the juicer a 2nd or 3rd time to get further extraction.

What are the practical differences between the Manual Stainless Wheatgrass Juicer by Back to Basics and the Miracle MJ-550ss electric wheatgrass juicer in terms of quality wheatgrass? Which one do you recommend?
I have not done any studies of the quality of wheatgrass juice produced by the juicers. I would think both produce a fine quality. They both work on the same priciple, but one has an electric motor connected to it. The electric model is a low rpm machine, and the hand crank machine operates at the rpm that one can turn the handle. I have never been one for hand cranking, and find that many people are "put" off by hand cranking in this "automated" society. So I believe the electric models are more used, since they are easier to use. I personally own a electric wheatgrass juicer, which I would reccomend.

Are there any significant differences between the Miracle Manual Wheatgrass Juicer and the Stainless Steel Manual Wheatgrass Juicer?
They are basically the same design. I would go with the stainless unit. The miracle unit tends to rust, and it is of poor construction. They both produce about the same yield of juice.

I have found that I am using a lot of wheatgrass and only yielding about .5oz of juice. Do you have any suggestions? Does this manual juicer require more wheatgrass to produce the same results as the electric models?
Wheatgrass does not generally contain alot of juice within it. It is only blades of grass. how much juice can it have? So it does take alot of wheatgrass to make a small amount of juice, but as you know the juice is potent.

The only things I can think of:

    1. make sure the outlet adjusting screw (the screw that you screw into the juicer where the pulp comes out is screwed tightly into the juicer.

    2. put the wheatgrass into the juice cut end first.
    3. rinse the wheatgrass under cold water before juicing.
    4. This manual unit should work the same as electric models (but of course electric models are much easier since they are electric)
    5. you can always put the pulp after it comes out of the juicer back into the juicer to try to extract more juice.
